Something wonderful growing in Woodbank Park11.07.43pm GMT Thu 15th Jan 2009
Stuart Bodsworth the Parliamentary Spokesman for Stockport has welcomed a Stockport Partnership initiative to tackle youth offending, rejuvenate Woodbank Park and benefit the local community. Stuart Bodsworth who is also Stockport Council's Executive councillor for the Environment visited the Woodbank Park Project this week to see for himself the excellent progress being made. "This project is a genuine partnership bringing together Safer Stockport Partners such as the Lib Dem led council the Police, the Fire Service and the Probation service." Said Stuart Bodsworth "Local businesses have also contributed vital supplies to get the project off the ground. It is wonderful to see the transformation that has been achieved on this site, opposite the nursery. With a little money and a lot of hard work it is being turned into a real community asset." "Young offenders have been put to work clearing and preparing the site. Two of the Polytunnels have been renovated and the site is almost ready to be opened as a community horticultural centre." "The not-for-profit centre will offer a chance for local youngsters, on the edge of getting into a cycle of offending, to learn new skills and get some useful qualifications." "This an environmentally friendly project too, from using fly tipped tyres to grow potatoes to installing a wind turbine to generate their own electricity." "I applaud everyone involved in getting this up an running it will be a real asset to Stockport and the local Woodbank community."
