Stockport Liberal Democrats would like to send out a very big thank you to local people for their massive vote of confidence in this years local elections.

In a dramatic election the Lib Dems took the former Labour heartland of Brinnington and Central and pulled further away from Labour in Davenport and Cale Green and Manor wards.

Unlike other parts of the country the Conservatives failed to make progress in the Stockport Constituency. Local people recognised that the only party who can challenge Labour round here is the Lib Dems. The Conservatives were pushed firmly into third place.

Lib Dems are closing in on Labour in Stockport constituency. It could not be much closer round here between the Lib Dems and Gordon Brown's lot. Labour cling onto 8 councillors but the Lib Dems are breathing down their neck with 7. Conservative trail a distant third with only 3 councillors.
